PTC calls for Microsoft to cut all ties with Family Guy

The Parents Television Council is calling for Microsoft to cut all ties – meaning, advertising during the time it’s on – with Family Guy. Here’s more information on what the PTC is asking for:

“In addition to explicit sexual humor and profanity ‘Family Guy’ promotes disrespect and violence toward women. In a typical episode from March 15 of this year, the Stewie character made comments such as, ‘I’m going to slit your throat in your sleep,’ as well as, ‘I was wondering if you could give me some advice on how to murder a woman and get away with it.’ A fist fight breaks out and doesn’t end until innocent bystander Lois, Stewie’s mother, is socked in the face. Microsoft also sponsored this episode.”

“‘Family Guy’ seems to treat the abuse and even murder of women as a joke, and because it is a cartoon, airing on Sunday evening, it is seen by millions of children every week.”

I understand what they’re saying, but seriously, it’s meant to be an adult satire/comedy show. And any parent who is STUPID enough to let their kids watch Family Guy deserves to be keelhauled. For pete’s sake, I’m so sick of these organizations getting all fired up about how “the children are getting hurt!” when it’s really the idiotic parents who need to get their heads of their asses.

Alex and Seth Almost Live – what did you think?

Well, it was a first for Alex Borstein and Seth MacFarlane this Sunday night – a live (almost) comedy show that was highly anticipated ever since Microsoft famously backed out. What did you think? Highlights:

Renee Zellweger impression
the whole Marlee Matlin thing (”and the phone kept ringing and ringing and ringing”)
LOVED the nightclub set, very 1940’s
screen tests (the Bea Arthur one was fantastic)

Overall it was pretty good. Here’s the show if you weren’t able to catch it.

Sherlock Holmes fills Family Guy gap left by Microsoft

Well, since Microsoft decided to jump ship on using Family Guy to drum up excitement for Windows 7 (more on that here and here), Sherlock Holmes – the movie – has decided to step in.

Seems that Warner Brothers, the company behind the new Sherlock Holmes movie, will replace Microsoft as sponsor of the Nov. 8 special, Family Guy Presents: Seth & Alex’s Almost Live Comedy Show, according to Adweek.

During the special, we’re going to get a sneak peek at the new SH film, as well as the great comedy that I’m sure Seth and Alex are going to bring us. I’ll post more information as it becomes available.

This is actually from May, but I don’t think it’s been posted. Highlights: Seth got an angry phone call from Ellen Cleghorne for a joke, his old school principal tried to get Family Guy off the air, he wants to open up a coffee shop when he grows up (yeah right), he goes over his 9/11 story, how FG is NOT vanilla, he wants to offend everyone so nobody feels left out, religious figures are the ones most offended (which motivates him to do more), the “Freakin Sweet” show with Alex Borstein, and a bit of inane chatter. What did you think of “Family Goy”?

I think Seth MacFarlane is determined to get Family Guy firmly back on track after Season 7’s dismal showing, because Family Goy was pretty dang good.

Highlights:

HOW in the world does Quagmire not know about Internet porn? Is that even possible? Coming out with that huge Popeye arm….neighbor Joe talking about the infamous Tonya Harding video (ew)….classic.
What the heck was that “Parker Lewis Can’t Lose” stuff? Another sitcom from the ’80’s finds new life with FG.
The Superhero beginning: “and Meg.”
A lot of the references were pretty obscure this time around. Did anyone catch what the one was with Peter sitting on the windowsill shooting (hint: the movie was a Steven Spielberg production).

Overall, I was pretty pleased with Family Goy, and I’m glad to see this season really getting off on a good foot.
