Diane Simmons: Tom, I’m getting late word that you’re a petty, jealous closet-case.
Tom Tucker: Bit of breaking news, we now go live to Diane being a bitch. Diane.
Tom Tucker: Well Diane, that last report was so good I think you deserve a spanking.
Diane: Oh Tom, I don’t think your wife would appreciate that.
Tom: Haha, that frigid old cow lives in Quahog she can’t hear a word I’m saying.
Camera Guy: Actually, we’re back on the air in Quahog.
div#main{overflow:visible;}

Diane: Today, a local man charged for peeping in the women’s bathroom at the Quahog Bowling Alley.
Tom Tucker: Coming up, Diane’s weight. [...]
Post from: Stewie's Playground

In this clip, we see Peter Griffin and his sea dogs (literal sea dogs) battle on the high freeways with their car, a sword, a big hat and a feather, and cannons. You know, standard issue for cars these days.

If you’ve watched Family Guy or the Simpsons for any length of time, you’ll notice some pretty glaring similarities. Let’s list a few:

They’re both, uh, “big-boned.”
They both have long-suffering wives who for some reason put up with all their stuff.
Each man has three kids.
Both men have issues with their fathers.
They’ve both had a ton of very odd jobs.
Both are heavy drinkers.
Both count watching TV as their favorite thing to do.
Both have small attention spans and think of other things when their wives are talking to them.

I’ve been diligently researching information on the new Cleveland Brown spinoff, and I’ve got some new information:

That fat kid in the screenshot? That’s Cleveland Brown Jr., redesigned. I’m thinking that they put him on meds for his ADD and he got fat? Maybe?

From ign.com: “Many years ago, Cleveland Brown (voiced by Mike Henry) was a high school student madly in love with a beautiful girl named Donna. Much to his dismay, his love went unrequited, and Donna wound up marrying another man. Cleveland once told Donna he would always love her, and if this man ever done her wrong, he’d be there when she called. Well, this man done her wrong. Donna’s husband skipped town with another woman, leaving Donna with a daughter and a baby. Now she’s come to Cleveland and offered him another chance at love. Unattached after the Loretta-Quagmire debacle and true to his word, Cleveland joyously accepts and he and Cleveland JR. move to Stoolbend, VA, to join their new family.”

Talking Bears live next door that have some kind of Eastern European accent.

Tentatively scheduled to be released in September 2009.

That’s all I have for now. One question I have for you – why do you think that Seth chose Cleveland Brown as his spinoff character? Why not Adam West, or Joe Swanson, or even Glen Quagmire?

UPDATED: May 27, 2008

OK! Here are some new tidbits about the Cleveland spinoff:

The voice of Cleveland, Mike Henry, is comparing Cleveland to Bob Newhart. Which makes a lot of sense if you think about it.

Cleveland thinks he’s on his way to California to pursue his lifelong dream of becoming a minor league baseball scout – but ends up in his Virginia hometown, instead.

The woman who Cleveland falls in love with is Donna, an old high school flame. She has a 16-year-old daughter, Roberta, who runs in the fast lane, and a 5-year-old son named Rollo, who’s streetwise and savvy to the ways of the world. Somewhat like Stewie.

His next-door-neighbors on one side are the Pennyapple family from Great Britain, with Seth MacFarlane doing the voice of the father, Barrington Pennyapple.

Across the street will be a family of rednecks – the dad is quite open about the fact he’s not quite comfortable with black people. Which should be both uncomfortable and funny, something that Family Guy is quite expert at.

The only clip I saw in there that wasn’t from Family Guy was the one of three Clevelands dancing, although that one looks familiar too. Here’s the lyrics for the song you hear Cleveland singing:

Over the years Family Guy has dabbled in politics quite a bit, and I think it’s pretty safe to say that the writers behind the show are definitely on the liberal side. They’ve poked fun at everything from debates to political candidates, and since they’re the parody experts, they can get away with a LOT. Here are the top ten Family Guy political clips – I’m sure we’ll be seeing a few about Obama, Clinton, and McCain next year!

10) Censorship: From the episode titled “PTV” in Family Guy Season 4. Peter gets miffed at the FCC for stifling his creativity, so decides to battle with a song. What, you don’t do that?

More Family Guy political clips after the jump;

9) Local Government: In which Lois learns that the key to winning the undecided voter is to speak simply and repeat 9/11 over and over again (cough Guiliani cough). From “It Takes a Village Idiot, and I Married One”, Family Guy Season 5.

Public Education: Screw No Child Left Behind! Principal Shepard decides to increase the school’s test scores by kicking Chris Griffin out of school. From “No Chris Left Behind”, Family Guy Season 5.

Here we go: the first screen capture from the new Cleveland Brown spinoff. Looks like Cleveland remarries, and gets three new kids? What happens to Cleveland Jr.? And there looks to be some zany neighbors there in the background.

I’m definitely going to give this a try, but honestly, spinoffs don’t usually fare that well. Look at how many horrific trainwrecks came out of “Friends” and “Cheers”, for example. If anyone has a chance to make this actually good, it’s Seth MacFarlane. We’ll see. What do you think?
