Brian Griffin makes list of top dogs in American culture

The American Kennel Club (AKC) has made list of the top 125 dogs in American culture, and our own Brian Griffin has made the list, clocking in at a very respectable #10.

Here are the top ten dogs:

1.
Snoopy – Charlie Brown’s pet Beagle in the comic strip Peanuts, drawn by Charles Schulz.
2.
Texas A&M’s “Reveille” – The official mascot, students adopted the first Reveille, a mixed-breed dog, in 1931. Eight years after the death of the first Reveille, a graduate of the university donated a Shetland Sheepdog to be the second official Aggie mascot, Reveille II. The third Reveille was the first to be a purebred Collie; all subsequent mascots have belonged to this breed.
3.
Scooby Doo – Norville “Shaggy” Rogers’ pet Great Dane who is in the animated Saturday morning television series Scooby-Doo, Where Are You!
4.
Eddie Spaghetti – The Jack Russell Terrier starred alongside Kelsey Grammer in the NBC sitcom Frasier.
5.
Pound Puppies – Created in 1984 by Tonka, these toy puppies could be “adopted” by kids. The toys were also featured in an animated television series on ABC.
6.
Dogs playing poker – A series of 16 oil paintings of anthropomorphized dogs playing poker by C.M. Coolidge was commissioned in 1903 by Brown & Bigelow to advertise cigars. Nine of the paintings, in which dogs are seated around a card table, have become mockingly known in the United States as examples of working-class taste in home decoration.

“How Much Is That Doggie in the Window?” – Written by Bob Merrill and recorded in 1953 by Patti Page.
8.
Georgetown’s “Jack the Bulldog –In 1962, “Jack” and the breed of English Bulldog was formally adopted the official mascot of Georgetown.
9.
“Who Let the Dogs Out?” – Written and originally recorded by Anslem Douglas for Trinidad and Tobago’s Carnival season of 1998. The song was later covered by the Baha Men in 2000. The track went to win the 2001 Grammy for Best Dance Recording.
10.
Brian Griffin – The Griffin family’s cynical, substance-abusing, talking dog on the FOX animated series Family Guy.
11.
Lassie – The genius heroine

Fox animated families make their New Year’s resolutions

Here are the Griffin Family’s New Year’s resolutions:

Peter Griffin: To use my intestinal gas in more creative and constructive ways.
Lois Griffin: To stop thinking about that yoga instructor at my gym.
Brian Griffin: Cut down on consumption of my own crotch.
Stewie Griffin: Spend more time admiring Abercrombie & Fitch window displays.
Meg Griffin: Teach myself how to shave my legs.
Chris Griffin: I know I’m young, but it’s never too early to start eating more fiber.

And the Simpsons:

Homer Simpson: In 2010, I will finally get around to voting for President.
Marge Simpson: I’ll try to be more assertive if it’s okay with everyone else.
Bart Simpson: I plan to raise a family of skunks in Principal Skinner’s car.

Family Guy one of the most downloaded torrents on the Web

One of my favorite sites on the Web, TorrentFreak, has released a great list of the most downloaded shows this past week, and Family Guy was third on the list. This is pretty much standard for our favorite Quahog family as far as torrents go. Which begs the question: have you downloaded a Family Guy torrent? (votes are completely anonymous):

What did you think of “Three Kings”?

“Three Kings” aired this Sunday, and it was pretty good! The episode was divided into three parts and they were VERY loosely based on “Stand by Me”,” Misery” and “The Shawshank Redemption.” Richard Dreyfuss narrates, and he was great. Here’s a short synopsis:

After Peter discovers the writing of Stephen King, he imagines his family and friends in three of King’s most famous works.

Here’s the official episode description for April 26’s NEW Family Guy episode titled “Stew-Roids”:

After Stewie gets his baby butt kicked by Joe’s infant daughter, he starts hitting the gym with Peter. It seems like all of Stewie’s hard work is paying off until Peter drops a bombshell when he reveals just how Stewie got those six-pack abs. Meanwhile, Chris starts to date a popular girl at school and quickly realizes that popularity is like physics – as in what goes up must come down.

Yes! I love episodes where they focus on Chris Griffin, one of my favorite episodes of all time is the one with the talking zit (Doug the Talking Pimple). Here are a few of the funniest Chris moments.

First, Principal Shepard decides to increase the school’s test scores by kicking Chris Griffin out of school.

The family notices that the history text that Chris is using is ridiculously out of date.

And last, Chris takes Anna out for Italian Food and asks if she’s ever had sex with a dog.
