There’s a new interview with Mike Henry, the voice of Cleveland Brown and the head go-to guy (right under Seth MacFarlane) over at The Cleveland Show. Here’s a snipped from the interview:
How do decide on how your characters’ (Cleveland, Greased-Up Deaf Guy and Herbert) voices should sound?
I based Cleveland off of a guy I met playing basketball who pronounced Maryland like “Merlin.” He had a funny voice, and I started mimicing him. The voices are generally based on people I’ve met. Herbert is based on an old man I used to see at a grocery store. …read more

Redneck comedy tour

Redneck comedy tour

The really weird thing is that I was JUST watching a whole bunch of redneck comics – Jeff Foxworthy, Bill Engvall, Larry the Cable Guy – the other day. I felt like I was getting stupider by the second – it was like I could actually FEEL the brain cells destroying themselves.

New interview with Mike Henry

There’s a new interview with Mike Henry, voice of Cleveland Brown, about the “Cleveland Show” coming our way soon. Here’s an interesting snippet:
iF: Which roles are you providing the voice for?
HENRY: I play Cleveland, I play Rilo, his five year old stepson who is basically kind of jacked up and can’t wait to start puberty so that he can start getting laid. I’ll play Wally who used to be a nerd in high school, but is now the principal of the high school so he’s in charge. I also play Terry who’s Cleveland’s sidekick on his job which is …read more

Mike Henry talks about the Cleveland Show

There’s a great interview with Mike Henry over at IGN; here’s a brief snippet:
IGN: Can you give us an idea of some of the episodes that you might be doing?
Henry: Yeah, it’s like a black Brady Bunch. We make that joke in the pilot. We explore a lot of the territory that the Brady Bunch would never touch. Which is basically combining families and the comedy that comes out of step-families. It really is a family-oriented show. It’ll have crude jokes – the s*** jokes, p**** jokes, whatever you need to do – but at the end of the …read more

More info on the Cleveland spinoff: family, neighbors, and more

I’ve been diligently researching information on the new Cleveland Brown spinoff, and I’ve got some new information:

That fat kid in the screenshot? That’s Cleveland Brown Jr., redesigned. I’m thinking that they put him on meds for his ADD and he got fat? Maybe?
From ign.com: “Many years ago, Cleveland Brown (voiced by Mike Henry) was a high school student madly in love with a beautiful girl named Donna. Much to his dismay, his love went unrequited, and Donna wound up marrying another man. Cleveland once told Donna he would always love her, and if this man ever done her wrong, he’d …read more

Here it is: the first official Cleveland trailer

Okay! Here’s the first official trailer of the Family Guy spinoff for Cleveland Brown:

The only clip I saw in there that wasn’t from Family Guy was the one of three Clevelands dancing, although that one looks familiar too. Here’s the lyrics for the song you hear Cleveland singing:
The Cleveland Show Song
“My name is Cleveland Brown
And I am proud to be
Right back in my home town
With my new family
There’s old friends and new friends
And even a bear
Through good times and bad times
It’s good times we share
And so I found a place
Where everyone will know
My happy black guy face
This is the Cleveland …read more

Exclusive: FIRST SCREENSHOT from the Cleveland Brown spinoff!

Here we go: the first screen capture from the new Cleveland Brown spinoff. Looks like Cleveland remarries, and gets three new kids? What happens to Cleveland Jr.? And there looks to be some zany neighbors there in the background.

I’m definitely going to give this a try, but honestly, spinoffs don’t usually fare that well. Look at how many horrific trainwrecks came out of “Friends” and “Cheers”, for example. If anyone has a chance to make this actually good, it’s Seth MacFarlane. We’ll see. What do you think?
I think the new Family Guy spinoff …read more

More information revealed about the Cleveland spinoff

Tiny bits of information are starting to creep out about the new Cleveland spinoff; I know that the Family Guy writers and staff have about a month off right now, but they should be coming back for production and then I’ll have lots more details (hopefully). But right now, here’s what I’ve got:
“The Cleveland Show,” based on the popular “Family Guy,” follows the adventures of the Cleveland Brown character as he moves to Virginia to reunite with a lost love and encounters strange neighbors.
Okay, this sounds lame, but I’m confident that Seth MacFarlane can turn it into comic gold. Or …read more
