CONTEST: Win a copy of Schoolhouse Rock! The Election Collection
September 26, 2008 by Wendy Boswell
Since this is a site about animated shows, and Schoolhouse Rock really was a forerunner of today’s shows that we know and love, I thought it would be fun to have a contest to win Schoolhouse Rock! The Election Collection. Here’s what you’ll be winning:
Rediscover the infectious music, witty lyrics and colorful animation from the Emmy-winning animated series that rocked America for more than a decade when Schoolhouse Rock! The Election Collection comes to DVD September 23, 2008 from Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment. As all eyes turn to the presidential election, it couldn’t be a better time for this collection of classic election-themed tunes including “I’m Just a Bill,” “Shot Heard ‘Round the World” and “I’m Gonna Send Your Vote to College,” the timeless songs that taught a generation of Americans that learning can be fun! The limited edition DVD also features the entertaining new to DVD song “Presidential Minute” with two surprise endings and an exclusive Election Tracking Kit with stickers to help viewers keep track of the actual voting results in all 50 states.
Remember Saturday mornings past at the ABC Network, when a series of three-minute animated shorts harnessed the power of music to educate children of all ages? From 1973 until 1986 and the early nineties, Schoolhouse Rock! used catchy music and sassy lyrics to teach kids the basic principles of grammar, arithmetic, history, science, government, computers and money management. The show became a smash hit and won four daytime Emmys (Outstanding Children’s Instructional Series, 1976,1978, 1979 and 1980) and one daytime Emmy nomination (Outstanding Children’s Instructional Series, 1977) for its charming and informative musical lessons.
From the original creators of Schoolhouse Rock!, executive producer George Newall, producer Radford Stone and music director Bob Dorough, Schoolhouse Rock! The Election Collection will introduce youngsters to important information, refresh the holes left by high school civics classes or provide a moment of pure nostalgia for grown up fans of the show.
Here’s what you need to do in order to win: Leave a comment with your favorite Schoolhouse Rock song, quote, moment, or memory. One entry per person, and please leave your email in the space provided so I can contact you if you win. The contest starts now, and will end Friday, October 3, at 12 midnight.
Good Luck!

Growing up without cable in Canada it was a treat to see these snippets at friends’ homes. I will always remember the “I’m just a Bill” song!
I’ve never seen this show, but I would love to win a copy to check it out.
I remember the first time I heard the song “I’m only a bill”. I was 7 or 8 years old and I would watch Saturday morning cartoons every Saturday. I remember thinking, “So that’s what a bill is!”.
Conjunction Junction
Conjunction Junction for me too. (Or maybe for me fourteen. This is one that stuck with a lot of us obviously.)
“Conjunction Junction, what’s your function?”
Conjunction Junction rocks!
Rufus Xavier Sarsaparilla and the kangaroo and armadillo. That used to crack me up!!! Conjunction Junction what’s your function? I’m only a Bill… School house rock is awesome.

My Hero, Zero was my oldest daughter’s favorite and my younger daughter loved Electricity, Electricity. They used to jump around the house singing them all the time. This does bring back memories. They are grown now, but I would love to win this for my niece and nephew.
I can see them in my mind when I close my eyes and wish they were around for my son but one that sticks was the one about the Constitution
I loved “Schoolhouse Rock”. II would say “Conjunction Junction”, but as I am typing this “I’m Just A Bill” keeps popping into my head.
I like “I’m just a bill, I’m only a bill, and I’m sitting here on Capital Hill”.
Conjunction Junction is my favorite, followed by the preamble to the constitution.
Conjunction junction what’s your function.
I sang conjunction junction to my daughter the other day, and got the strangest look. I’d love to show this to her, and then I’m sure she’ll sing it with me
I’m Just a Bill is my favorite song.
I’m Only a Bill is great
“Conjuntion, junction…………whats yo’ function?” made an impression on me!
Ok I admit I had to look it up to find out what it was called, but I remember when my daughter was little and it was my particular favorite.
Mother Necessity
With her good intentions,
Where would this country be
Without her inventions?
With Mother Necessity and where would we be
Without the inventions of your progeny?
Figure Eight Rock multiplication was my favorite. Still my favorite number.
