Seth MacFarlane talks about Stewie Griffin’s sexuality

February 4, 2008 by Wendy Boswell

stewie_101.pngIn a recent interview with the Advocate, Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane talked about Stewie Griffin’s sexuality:

Cartoon baby Stewie Griffin, from the animated comedy series Family Guy has been outed by the show’s creator Seth MacFarlane as gay.

In an interview with gay magazine, The Advocate, MacFarlane said the show’s writers have kept the character’s sexuality ambiguous because they could get jokes ‘from both sides’.

While the show’s writers believe Stewie is “almost certainly gay”, he thinks the character himself is “in the process of figuring it out for himself”.

The acclaimed show often features gay sub-plots exploring gay marriage, adoption rights and AIDS. MacFarlane’s other successful creation, American Dad features and alien character who, like Stewie, is also famous for his effete mannerisms.

    Hey Joe May,

Actually…Stewie is a cartoon character, not a baby. The Idea of the character’s sexuality is not something thought up by the creator of this blog. As the creator Seth MacFarlane himself has said, Stewie’s sexuality is an integral part of the story. Fans aren’t making up this from any cryptic inuendos, It’s right out there in front. I don’t know how anybody could miss that. Is the character Gay or just exploring his sexuality and options? That’s up to the individual viewers to decide. In the mean time, it’s very funny!

    Cheers!
    Kent
